Treatment of colorectal metastases: surgery, cryotherapy, or radiofrequency ablation.
نویسنده
چکیده
The liver is the most common site of metastases from colorectal cancer. There has therefore been growing interest in how liver metastases may be ablated. The most common techniques for ablation of liver metastases are surgical resection, cryotherapy, and increasingly in recent years, radiofrequency ablation.

Efficacy of cryotherapy versus radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of plantar warts
Background: Plantar warts may be refractory to any form of treatment and are associated with pain and a decreased quality of life. There are very few randomized controlled studies that focuson the treatment of plantar warts. Cryotherapy and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) have been used in the treatment of this recalcitrant <s...
متن کاملRadiofrequency ablation for colorectal liver metastases.
The management of hepatic metastases from colorectal cancer (HMCRC) is multimodal including chemotherapy, surgical resection, radiation therapy, and focused destruction technologies. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is the most commonly used focused destruction technology. It represents a therapeutic option that may be potentially curative in cases where surgical excision is contra-indicated. It a...
متن کاملPROGRESS IN LIVER TRANSPLANTATION Management of Hepatic Metastases
Although the liver is the most common site of metastatic disease from a variety of tumor types, isolated hepatic metastases most commonly occur from colorectal cancer and, less frequently, from neuroendocrine tumors, gastrointestinal sarcoma, ocular melanoma, and others. Complete evaluation of the extent of metastatic disease, both intrahepatically and extrahepatically, is important before cons...
متن کاملHow Effective Are Percutaneous Liver-Directed Therapies in Patients with Non-Colorectal Liver Metastases?
BACKGROUND The purpose of this review is to demonstrate the clinical indications, technical developments, and outcome of liver-directed therapies in interventional oncology of non-colorectal liver metastases. METHODS Liver-directed therapies are classified into vascular transarterial techniques such as chemoperfusion (TACP), chemoembolization (TACE), radioembolization (selective internal radi...
متن کاملSurgical hepatic resection vs. ultrasonographic guided radiofrequency ablation in colorectal liver metastases: what should we choose?
Clinical evolution of the colorectal carcinoma occurs in up to 60% with colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). Although hepatic resection is considered to be the golden standard in CRLM, novel less invasive techniques have emerged, of which radiofrequency ablation has received a high credibility. When tumors are not eligible for surgery, guided radiofrequency ablation is considered an alternative....
